Morgan Bain, MD
“Palliative Care: What It Is, What It Isn’t, and Why It Matters”
As we get older, many of us find ourselves helping a spouse, family member, friend, or even ourselves navigate the challenges of serious illness. Palliative care is a medical specialty designed to make that journey a little easier. It brings together experts who help manage symptoms, provide support, and ensure that care is guided by a person's goals, values, and priorities. Ultimately, palliative care is about living well, even when health problems become complicated.
Dr. Morgan Bain is currently section head of palliative care at Greenwich Hospital, assistant clinical professor at Yale School of Medicine, and former professor of medicine at Duke University. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University and Virginia Commonwealth University and completed an internal medicine residency at Norwalk Hospital, followed by a geriatric medicine fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.
Board certified in internal medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, and geriatric medicine, Dr. Bain has many years of experience caring for vulnerable adults with complex medical problems and needs. He has served as medical director and fellowship director of palliative care at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, medical director for outpatient palliative care at Duke University and assembly co-chair for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine in 2025 and 2026. His passions include patient care and medical education, having taught hundreds of medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing physicians throughout his career
Our next presentation, on December 2, is by Benn Steil, PhD, on “The Marshall Plan: Dawn of the Cold War”
