Neal S. Wolin
“Geopolitics and Global Economics”
RMA member Jerry Pollack will moderate an hour discussion with Neal Wolin, fomer Deputy Secretary of the US Treasury and later Acting Secretary of the Treasury during the Obama administration, from 2009 to 2013. As Deputy Secretary, he was the department’s chief operating officer and supervised all Treasury bureaus and domestic and international policy offices as well as its management, legal, public affairs and congressional affairs functions. He was a key architect of the Obama Administration's financial reform plan and played a critical role on international economic matters.
Wolin will field questions focused on national and international policies and strategies resulting from economic challenges to the US and other nations. How will US alliances, competitors and adversaries change, or not, as the geopolitical forces play out over the coming months/years? He will explain how the Treasury Department operates at home and abroad in key geopolitical arenas. Among the potential subject areas, guided by audience questions, will be Greenland; tariffs; US and China bilateral relations; "America First" vs international cooperation; import/export and investment flows, especially those focused on technology with national security relevance; the US midterms: and the 2028 presidential elections.
Wolin is currently Vice Chairman of Brunswick Group, a Washington, DC firm that advises clients across industries on significant financial, M&A, regulatory and public affairs issues. Previous positions include Deputy Assistant and Deputy Counsel to the President for Economic Policy in the Obama Administration and as General Counsel of the US Treasury and member of the National Security Council staff in the Clinton Administration. He is a graduate of Yale and Oxford Universities.
