Pickleball

What is the fastest growing sport in America? It’s not tennis or golf but a relatively new paddle sport with the odd name of pickleball. The game combines elements of badminton, ping pong, and tennis and is played on a court which is less than a third the size of a tennis court, making it appealing to older tennis players or others with achy joints.

Pickleball is normally a doubles game. The players use solid paddles, somewhat larger than ping pong paddles, and hit a perforated plastic ball over a net.

The rules are quirky, but simple, and the game and technique are easy for beginners to learn. It is said that pickleball is like checkers, in that it’s “simple to learn but difficult to master”.
