RMA members, along with other volunteers from the local community prepare tax returns at no cost for Greenwich residents and others who live and work nearby. The service is intended for those with low to moderate incomes.
This is part of a national program operated by the AARP that prepares over two million returns annually. Local volunteers prepare in excess of three hundred returns. Volunteers receive training from experienced volunteers and certification is provided by the IRS. Training materials are provided.
Beginning early February, returns are prepared on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Greenwich Town Hall. Volunteers usually work one day per week and scheduling can be flexible if needed. All work is done on computers.
Four to five preparers work at the same time and assist one another when difficult issues or problems arise. The work is quite rewarding – clients who use the service are very appreciative.
